Radiator re-core
Discussion
Evening all,
Having suffered in the heat on the way back from Le Mans (isn't Rouen traffic a nightmare?) i have got to do something about my rad.
I had been planning a rad recore anyway, but have had conflicting advice about number of cores and whether to go ally or copper, but having spoken to a radiator specialist today i got the impression that for 135 quid he recores the rad (24 hour turnaround) with slightly more pipes in the core and in copper (as per original).
Anyone got any comments on this?
Cheers,
VS
P.S. The guy is in Reading (Berkshire Radiators) and has done 2 rads in the last week for TVRs!

Serck in Reading come highly recommended too. I believe a rad recore is somewhere in the £120-£150 range depending on the type of rad.
However, lacking the mechanical knowledge to replace a rad my Chimaera is with Dave Batty who uses a company he has used for 20 years and it is not Serck. I don't know who it is though, but if you give him a call I'm sure he'd tell you.
Dave is charging me £188.95 + labour + coolant + VAT, which seems about par for the course.

Dunno where you are but I had mine done at Colchester Radiator Specialists.. £120 for a recore and much better than the origional.. never gets much above 80 in traffic now and the fans only run for about 30 seconds before they have brought the temp down.. IMHO a red recore is the first thing to do before putting on pointless cooling upgrades and fan override switches..
