Am I being unrealistic?

I have my Specialized Rockhopper Pro up for sale at the moment. It's a 2006 model but has seen very little use (hence the sale) and is in superb condition. Avid Juicy hydraulics, Rock Shox Recon adjustable forks. I put it up at £575 expecting to take £500 for it (with wireless computer, lights, spare seat. hybrid SPD/pedals). It was £1k new and someone's offered me £400. Are my expectations of value out of kilter?

it depends, if you really dont need to sell, eg if you are planning on ugrading, ask yourself is it really worth upgrading to something new when this is a good bike. if you really need to get the cash, take £400-450 and spend £10 on a few beers to cheer yourself up. I'd rather keep it than sell it for so little.
its taken a while to filter through but the economic situation now means that its more of a buyers market than ever before with regards to second hand goods. I have a kart up for sale at the moment. i am asking too much but its not worth giving away. the racers with mega bucks are still racing but now the amateur/enthusiasts are giving up and selling top drawer race kit for peanuts so i dont really have a chance with stuff that hasnt got the race history.
Asking a touch too much I'd say: it's a 5 y/o, mass-market, mid-range MTB (a very nice one however: I had a 2007 and adored it). Seems that for such bikes, 50% in the first year, then 10% every year after that. So at £1K purchase, then £450ish, tops...
TBH I'd also keep it if it were me, unless I had other ideas for the resultant £££ from selling. It was a good bike...still is!

Sadly, I think you are being a bit optimisic with that price. I appreciate that your bike is almost unused, but it is 4 years old and bikes depreciate like nothing else. I got a similar spec'd 2010 bike new for £600 in the sales.
At £400 I'd keep it myself, but I think that that is realistically top end for the bike.

It's now in being serviced, new pads front and rear and the brake fluid changed.
My main issue is that I have to keep it in my flat. I have nowhere to clean it if it's muddy/dirty and if it's wet I can't really keep it on cream carpets... I've also just bought a Concept 2 rowing machine which is taking up the space where the bike should be, hence part of the reason for getting rid of it.
Never mind, I'd rather not sell it for peanuts 'just because'. I'll find a solution, I'm sure!

If you work in the same office as me, please remove it, I'm fed up of not being able to get my bike on the rack when I come in in the morning because 10 lay people have decided that the work bike rack is their own personal extra storage

I suggest you practise a little more of what you preach AyBee and stop coveting your neighbour's bike rack space.
