I have a 53 plate Mondeo TDCi (130 if that matters) which when it comes on 'boost' makes a whooshing noise and loads of black smoke piles out the back. Also it feels hesitant.

Any thoughts what might be wrong with her?

Thanks for the replies, is it a costly fix or fairly straightforward?

Thanks, that's good news as I'm planning on selling it.

If it was just a 'fix to sell', an unscrupulous person might just wrap duct tape around the split pipe and hope it held until the cheque cleared...

I'm not that way inclined, plus there is a slim chance I might end up keeping it... I'm not 100% sure yet

Excellent glad you sorted it. Did you give the EGR valve a clean while you was there???

No idea! I took it to the local mechanic, I don't have the time, skills, space, tool or inclination to do it myself!
