hi

i tend to service all my cars myself. I take photos and keep receipts of all work done in folders (sad i know). However for the first time ever i have got a fairly newish car (well new in my terms) a 55 plate A4 B7 tdi i bought for my missus. i intend to sevice the audi myself, like all my other cars.

So here's the question... can i fill up the sevice book as i complete the sevices?

i'm not trying to fool any future owners (the car will be worth pennies when i get round to replacing it in 5 or 10 years). I won't be doing any retrospective filling up of sevice book, all entries will be genuine and the work will be carried out and backed up with receipts and photos. It just the anal petrolhead in me that likes to have these kinds of records. i'll probably be using VCDS to change service reminders etc..
i'll be puting my name and address against all the entries in the service book, so future owners can contact me for further information

What are the legalities of doing this? is it a big no-no?

obviously if it's not legal i won't be doing it, so thought i'd try to find out before proceeding

You can draw comedy penii on every page of the service book if you want, it is your car and your service book to do with as you please.

You're not stamping it, so I see no harm in recording the mileages of the services and the service items you changed.

I do it for my cars. Receipts can then be linked to dates in book etc. and if the next owner returns it to a garage for servicing they can just carry on after the last one you did.

You can stamp it if you want (with a comedy cock and balls, if you like!). The only problem youd have would come about if you falsified an AUDI service record, which you arent doing.

To be honnest self service can be better than a garage service (because you give more than half a toss about the car and the occupants and it isn't just another job). Make a note of the mileage and keep the reciepts for the parts you use.

Too much stress is placed upon the number of rubber stamps in a book when the owner will take better care of a car than most garages.
