Hi guys

I have my Mazda 6 for sale on eBay, I'm already losing a pretty penny on it since it's got a knackered DPF, so I'd like to get the tank of fuel that's in it. The pipe has an anti syphon device in it, and I tried to lift the seats to try and access the top of the tank, but it looked complex with wiring for the seatbelt pre-tensioners.

So, has anyone done it, and what's the easiest way?

Can't the dpf just be removed? It's not even needed for the MOT, is it?

DPF's not needed for the MOT no, but if you remove it you may have to get the ECU reprogrammed, no idea how out it would be though.

Did this once with a Vectra I was scrapping. Had almost a full tank in and didn't want to see that £70 going to the scrappy who was only giving me £120 anyway.

I found the best way to get the fuel out was to disconnect the fuel line. I tried at the fuel rail but couldn't make enough space to get a can into the bay with the fuel line inside. It just didn't have enough length.

I then followed the fuel line back under the car and found that they had a connector half way back along the car. Disconnected it, put the line into the can and switched the ignition on and off about 300 times until I had almost drained the tank.

Took about an hour as the pump only squirts for a second or so each time the ignition is turned on.

Not really relevant to the 6 but might be worth looking for something similar.

If you can get access to the pump wires directly connect it to 12v.
Disconnect the pipe at the fuel filter in the engine bay (or if you can at the tank) and just fashion another pipe to a can and drain.
