New street GP circuit......

When I was a lad, growing up in sunny Torquay I used to dream of creating A GP circuit along the seafront / harbour and up through the town. I reckon it could have been fantastic - bit of new tarmac here and there, bit of armco, bish bash bosh!!

Edinburgh would be fantastic.
Either a section involving Holyrood Park/Arthurs Seat as a hill section, or along Princes Street and over The Mound etc.
Or even better a route combining both including going doen the Royal Mile, and back via the Cowgate and Grassmarket.
Like Monaco but not beside the sea and a bit different weather wise.

Start off in Folkestone, fly through the town, along the leas, around the ringroad type thing they have, up Blackbull Rd onto the Roundhill. Turn right before you get onto the A260 and go onto the Alkham Valley road, go down that road (great hooning potential that road has 
) then through Temple Ewell, onto Jubilee Way, follow that down to the Ferries, then a massive straight linealong the A20 until you reach roundhill tunnels, go through the tunnels (the noise will be epic) come off at cheriton, down through the tesco car park (i bet it looks fun at speed) then down into Hythe, back along the seafront, then end up in Folkestone town again.

Kingston-upon-Thames one way system marked out by my drunken orange dots, taking in the tunnel at C and the Hampton Wick roundabout for a hairpin.

On a serious note I cannot understand why this doesnt happen. I appreciate that safety is a big factor, however the benefits are going to far outweigh the risks.
I went up to london a few years back when this was being touted about, few F1 cars down bond street, just seems so boring and tiresome to just say 'we cant'.
The place was packed then, let alone on a full race day. It would mean london would be packed for 1 week per year - but mahoosive tourism input on all levels.

Start finish line opposite Keble on Banbury road. Hard right hander (lots of space) at St johns, past the theatre and that posh hotel I've never been in. Through the Walton S, and over Hythe bridge street. Slight risk of F1 cars getting air, but I'm sure they could deal with it (well, probably not).
Fast left hander past the old Jam factory, followed by a long left hander past the ice rink. Should be a secotor that suits the red bulls. 2 left handers (one of them rather tight) takes you onto the short straight up to the Carfax tower. Slightly dissapointing chips optional. The High Straight passes several colleges, including brasnose, All Souls, and the Exam School. Through the bus gate then left up Longwall Street past New, up to the Science area, South parks road, and ultimately to the Banbury Hairpin, and start another lap.
Cunningly, the pits could be located round the back of the exam school. If Charlie EWhiting really didn't want the pits away from start / finish, you could have the line on the High street - but it'd be harder to accomodate grandstands...

Harrogate town centre, but it wouldn't be for GP - touring cars and club racing over successive weekends ending on the Aug bank holiday. Not that I have thought about it.
You could even use the bus station as the pits, put grandstands on the stray, ASDA car park as the paddock, may need to clear a bit of street furniture out of the way however.

If it was a GP/race of some sort in central London I'd like the idea of incorporating the road that goes through Hyde Park and over the Serpantine somehow, perhaps something like this:

The bit down park lane might work nicely, could have the track on one carridgeway and the pits on the other....

Ok you'd have to widen some of the roads, build brand new facilities and murder the entire National Trust and maybe even the Duke of Northumberland, but the Cragside GP gets my vote. I used to walk around something approximating this route sometimes and it's got elevation changes, hairpins, fast sweepers and long straights.
I used to day dream about building an F1 track there in much the same way, and even make engine noises in my head whilst walking...
