North east track days

Hi people 1st time on forum .. Just got me a Subaru wrx sti , I have always wanted to do a few track days since , I got a red letter day and fell in love with Subaru's and speed.. I live up in the north east and want to take my everyday car on the track .. Few questions do many people drive there race /track then drive home ?? Is this advisable or do I need to hire a wagon to take the car ??
Next what tracks are near to Newcastle ? Does anyone use these tracks ? Any tips advice or mockery welcome ... Cheers Paul

Lots of people drive their cars to trackdays, most of them also manage to drive home afterwards . AA membership isn't a bad idea, some of the other rescue organisations won't recover from trackdays so worth checking in their terms and conditions.

Your closest "proper" circuit is probably Croft but they are limited on dates due to NIMBY noise issues, after that you are heading further south perhaps to Cadwell Park in Lincs, both are well worth a visit.

You could also look at Teeside Autodrome, more local but smaller or there are some airfield days run at Elvington.

Thanks for reply mate , greatly appreciate , the advice .. I've looked at Teeside , I thought it looked good although read a few threads say it's very tight in places ? For a novice .. Had even contemplated a lesson before I took my car on the track .. I know they only go as fast or slow as you push the peddle , as I said it's a new car too me , well over 300 bhp , still getting a feel for it . So I've got a few things to think about ... I've not ben to Teeside so can't comment in detail but I understand it's used a lot as a kart track so likely to be tight in places! That said, might be a fairly safe place to get on track for the first time?

You'll be able to book tuition at pretty well any of the trackdays you go to, I'm biased but I'd say it's well worth the money

Have a look at the SIDC sessions at Knockhill - these are uaually run 9:00-13:00 on Saturday mornings. OPL so you can rack up quote a few track miles in the 4 hours. No more this year now though. Very good driving standards, and while it is SIDC organised, it's not exclusively Scoobies or members, there are always more Lotuses out. Plus if you come up the A68 you have a hoot getting there and back too. Quite a few folks come down from Aberdeen, and that can't be too far short of the distance from Newcastle so must be worth the drive.

teeside is a great little track, just one or 2 places where you need to be careful with the throttle if you are in a rwd car, good fun .

If you haven't done any trackdays and the car and power are fairly new to you then choose an Airfield trackday first - less chance of contacting the armco and being very costly. Tuition is a good idea and usually can be bought on most organised trackdays for 20 mins at a reasonable price. I suggest you look at Elvington, York first followed by Blyton Park Lincolnshire next. I think Teeside is not a good option first time out.
