Heres my lil Alfa
1971 Alfa GT 1300 Junior
3 previous owners, ex Narobi car - solid & rust free, 42,000 miles on the clock. Got it re-registered to a correct J plate, so tax free & black & silver plates. Already fitted a new fuel tank, new rubber seals all round, re-furbed the calipers & new brakelines, Harvey Baily handling & lowering kit to fit to it. koni red & yellow shocks, thicker ARB, refurbed all the suspension arms etc.. a set of saab 5.5" x 15" steels which look factory, but a bit bigger & wider. some K&N's & a nice Oil Catch tank. Black crackled the rocker, & re-gasketed the engine.

rides really nice now, not too harsh (no track use for this yet). Wouldnt have minded it another inch lower, but the exhaust & sump are now quite low (just enough to be practical).

I think I need to space the wheels out another 10-15mm.

Then this weekend had taken to peter baldwin at wilsher garages near cambridge. An old boy who only does race cars and carbs on the rolling road.

After initially finding that there was so much soundproofing over the top of the accelerator stoo I had never been getting full throttle. So removed all that. Adjusted rod linkage on throttle. Screwed accelerator stop down as far ad it would go. New points. Bad earth on condensor . Checked plug gaps. Adjusted timing. Set up carbs for the k+n's I fitted 6 months ago.

So for a 40 year old engine that should have 87bhp at 6200rpm it now has 105bhp at 6200rpm

The difference is unreal. Doesn't bog down. Noisier now the throttles are wide open. And much nicer to drive.

Looks great Jamie. Love the crackle finish cam covers.
Did you do those, or were they on already?

Did those myself, had to import the paint, as its illegal in EU (cyanide) - took a lot of prep, & very specific process to get a good crackle.

1st attempt resulted in the Mrs brand new Smeg oven being covered in dripped paint, as the can said 200 degrees. What I forgot was it was american, so needed F not celsius !!!!! So had to get it shotblasted for the 2nd attempt, to get the 1st attempts crackle off.

No its got the standard Glass bowl filter, but I refurbed it all when I did the re-gasketing.

Change it!

The one real weak point on the car.

I know of three that went up in flames from the owners club, (one being a GTa!) where the chamber has failed.

Not only are the replacements safer they (mine) has a higher flow rate.

I also fitted braided fuel lines as extra piece of mind.

Cost about £160 to do and in my opinion well worth it.
