older Merc + (processed) bio diesel

Does anyone run their older Merc on BioDiesel? > pure Bio i mean, not supermarket mixed 50/50 or whatever they do..

I've had a look into it and have seen referenced that apprently older Mercs are very good to run on the stuff (and old LandRovers but thats not practical with all my motorway miles), but I cant seem to find any definate info (eg real user 'x' admits he drives merc model 'y' and has run BioDerv for 'z' yrs without issues).

im interested in picking up a new shed to try the Bio option on (my D4D engine in my current beater - Toyota Avensis is a no go with Bio Diesel), plus am just moving house and the larger garage in the new place means could easily store/use something like this so i quite fancy giving it a go!

I spend about £100/week on diesel at the mo, so would be great to bring that down a touch.. without having to trundle down the mway at 60mph for better mpg

looking at something like this Merc (or any other model with smaller engine.. but that sort of thing : c£1-2k)

It only needs to last a year so high mileage isnt an issue, with the money saved i could afford to scrap/replace (worst case).. work also pay me by mileage (45p/mile rather than receipted fuel bills) so its probably about time i tried to maximise that income and 'DIY' processed fuel would be a great way to do it..

I've run mine (1994 E300D with 6-cyl N/A engine) most of this summer on 100% bio. I haven't changed anything in the fuel system (except both filters after my first couple of tanks) and it has run fine. I get around 90-95% same mpg as normal diesel, or better if it's supermarket guff fuel... and the engine idles smoother. It's great, you save money, and you're being nice to the environment too

Nice one!.. will have to give this a go then, the E300 is the model i'd like most to waft down the motorway in aswell good to know its already been done and runs fine. great stuff, cheers.

Decent E300 Diesels are an endangered species now. Find one while you can!
