Bora Aux input - advice?

I'll try and keep this brief, as I'm sure you lot are perfectly capable of providing an answer.

In short..

2003 VW Bora, love it dearly. Would like to play mah choons in transit, rather than relying on the radio.

In past cars I'd rip out the stereo, fit some plasticky contraption with an aux lead, and robert's your mother's brother.

Now, I kinda like the stereo, esp. its links to the trip computer on the dash/steering wheel controls.

Is there a way of having an iPod/aux connector (both? or just one will do) in the cubby above the stereo, and control the ipod through the steering wheel. Fool the car into thinking it has a CD changer, perhaps?
