Can anyone recommend a kind way to get stubborn marks off Cerb wheels. I clean them every week but I've got what seems to be a combination of grease and brake dust which won't come off with normal car shampoo.

I want to avoid aggressive cleaners if I can as I have had bad experiences with products like wonder wheels in the past.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use Traffic Film Remover. You can get it from Partco or other industry suppliers.

50/50 mix with water spray it on the wheels, then rub with a sponge and wash off with clean water. Safe to use on paint work, but polish after as it removes the wax.

Really good stuff, been using it for years on loads of diffeent cars.

The other good one is WD40 - it cuts straight through the grease. Those marks will be off in less that 5 seconds!

Wonder Wheels from halfwits all the way - this is teh best product. Buy the kit in the box with the brush - a little goes a long way.

Hi Phil,

Another option is to mosey on down to your local Porsche dealer (I hear IoM is full of them...) and get their wheel cleaning kit (greeninsh spray thing, brushes etc). As some Porkers use magnesium wheels, this stuff is very gentle, but also effective. Only never use it when wheels are hot.

Regards,
Sean

Thanks for all the replies. I tried WD40 but it didn't shift it so it can't be grease after all. I'll work my way through the other suggestions.

Sean - you're right - the IOM is full of Porsches. Not enough TreVoRs unfortunately since the dealer here only lasted six months.... BTW - have your wheels settled in OK in their new home?

Hi,
they're doing sterling service, I'm going to run them as they are until the current rubber is dead, then get them antracited/refurbed, then post some pics . How's life with "the big wheels"?

Life is fine with the new wheels apart from the ^*^*% stain on the front one. Must admit I've found the Toyos better than the SO2s for day to day use over here, particularly in the wet. I'm hopefully doing a track day in September so I can push them a bit and see what happens.

Were expecting the new arrival some time this month, so I'll have to learn how nappies fasten together. Another cleaning job :-)

The nappy goes on the bottom (leaky) half of the baby, and the cute picture goes on the front. There you go!! Easy peasy.

Good luck BTW, hope everything goes well. Let us know how you get on!
