Shortest time you've owned a car?
Discussion
My snotter car just died. RIP old Hyundai
In the 7 weeks I owned the car, it had a door broken off in a car wash, needed a new battery and now needs a new gearbox costing more than the purchase price. Not the best purchase or most honest seller I've ever had, but it got me thinking that 7 weeks is a stupidly short amount of time to own a car!
I've actually had a car I owned for a mere 6 weeks, making the Hyundai seem like a vast ownership period!
It was a 1997 Micra snotter which I inherited from my Grandma when she stopped driving. A few weeks later my mum changed cars and I ended up with her newer, better condition Micra instead and the older car was sold!
I'm now sat here wondering whether to bother replacing the Hyundai. The prospect of a Kia Picanto or Daewoo Matiz (newer, more reliable I'd hope) doesn't sound appealing
So, either by choice, breakdown, crash or boredom; what is the shortest time you've owned a car/vehicle?

I'd be surprised if anyone tops that. Day and a half ending in a fire is pretty epic.
My father had an old Merc for about a week but that was just due to logistics. The guy he bought it from said nothing about the clouds of blue smoke comming from the exhaust. When he phoned up to ask for his private plate back my father gave him the whole car back. We had it for about a week but noticed the oil burning after the first day.

I suppose hire cars don't count. But I hired a Fiesta, drove it back from the airport because it was cheaper than catching the train and brought it back to a different branch of the same hire company at 10am the next morning.
If hire cars count I can beat that
Used to pick up hire cars at Birmingham airport at about 9am and on occasion had it back for 1pm for a return flight.
Ridiculously wasteful times.
17 hours....
I bought a BMW Z3 earlier this year... Picked it up at 6:00 as my wife wanted to watch the Royal Wedding. Early next morning I was giving it a clean and steam cleaned a sticker off from under the bonnet and noticed some plate holes underneath, which made me suspicious. I took a hard look at the VIN number in the window and found it was a sticker over the real number! it was a ringer.
Called the guy up, he didn't believe me so I took it over. he was an honest guy, and gave me the cash back. it had been a ringer for 10 odd years.

I had a polo for 2 days once. My car (volvo 340) broke down in bath, and I needed to get home that day (with my mate, and a week's camping gear). picked up a copy of the free-ads, found a couple of cars, 2 hours later I was down £50 but up a polo with a short MOT. got insured, drove it home, hated it (the front offside wheelbearing was shot - to the point where the front wheel had ~2cm play in it, so it wondered all over the place, and the brakes needed 2 'pushes' to get them to apply). Stripped the speakers out (they were reasonably decent sony 6x9s) stuck it in freeads the next day, and it was gone by 7 in the evening. Got £50 plus £30 for the tax. Total length of ownership - 30 hours. Total cost of ownership (including petrol) -£10 plus a set of speakers
