...Just spent the first 20Mins of the day stripping the front grill off the car as my alarm siren has decided it wants to go off weather the alarm is turned on or off. I take it the self powered side of the alarm is defective. Does anyone know if the battery is available seperatly from such places as Maplins, or is it time for a new siren???

Also, I am bloody deaf now as the only way I could stop the siren was to cut the wires..I hope my hearing retuns duering the day!! ;-)

You don’t mention the make of the alarm.

If it’s a Meta the backup battery is built into the siren. However cutting the wires would cause the siren to sound in this case. (intended to prevent a thief just cutting the wires to stop the alarm from sounding)

The Meta siren is a sealed unit and a replacement unit is the only way to fix it. (Contact Carl Baker).

We've had 2 go, right in the middle of the night too. Damn annoying. Just whip it off (pretty easy to do), and wrap it in a quilt or something until it stops. Get a new siren from Carl Baker, job done.

It's fcensoredd now. A bucket of water works well at this point.

...Thanks for your help folks, Why do these things only ever fail in the early hours??

Looks like I will be speaking to Carl as it is a Mheta alarm, although the freaky thing is that as soon as the wires were cut it stopped and didnt go off again.

I know they'd changed the design and Carl was having them made. If this is the case are we all going to have to change systems??

£160, bin the Meta and get a new alarm.. I put in an Autowatch 457rli from Abacus alarms.. Doddle to install, Cat 1 status when you get it signed off by any alarm installer for £10 and smaller/simpler than the Meta. Built in boot popper as well.. Can't go wrong with that!

I bought a Meta siren off Carl at the Growl as when mine armed the thing chirped about 30 seconds later. Swapped it on my way home whilst waiting for the AA. The last siren???
