After witnessing the ttish/chavtastic driving skills of a few TT drivers of late i find myself wondering if it has become the new Chav motor of choice, prices for high milers are coming in quite low these days.

Last nights example was 100% tt,hearing a screaming gearbox, dumpvalve tweeting every chance it got, and driver attempting to drift the roundabout leading to the petrol station then handbraking it at the pump, to be fair more than one of us ‘normal’ drivers let out a loud sigh/disappointing headshake, and one women even shouted ‘ar*ehole’ as the driver exited the car. Cue sheepish looking driver putting about £5 of fuel in the tank and hurriedly leaving the station! laugh

Anyone else out there noticing this behaviour (out of usual Audi driving standards) or is it just the chavs in my area?

Noticing the lack of Evo’s and Imprezas lately too and an increase in the TT’s, which led me to think its the new chavchariot, complete with blacker than black tints, massive alloys, huge 'zorsts etc etc

I agree Tank, theres a few round here too. I think their the vehicle of choice because they have a prestige badge and can be remapped to 270bhp ish rather easily.

Mr Clarkson of Top Gear fame has said on a number of occasions that Audi drivers are challenging the status of BMW drivers for the bad driver title (modified for public forum use).

Yes, I'm now seeing loads of really badly modified ones and chavs driving about in them.

The problem is the Mk1's have reached a price point whereby they are 'falling into the wrong hands'.

Unlike an ageing Porsche or something like that, the chavs aren't being put off by horror stories about running and upkeep costs because "it's just a golf underneath innit".

Is the term chav being used to describe anybody who is under 25 and has a big exhaust on their car? I thought chavs sat in council estates smoking 20 a day and watching Jeremy Kyle. My understand was an actual chav couldn't afford a Audi TT, especially a modified one scratchchin

I think what's being gotten at here is that the 'great unwashed' are able to purchase prestige or performance cars that were once out of their financial reach, and as a result they treat them with little respect, both for the car and the eye, and the AudiTT is in that catergory (though I thought that has been the case for a number of years).

All that said, it doesn't matter if you have lots of money, you can still act like a chav smile

"chav" is used for an attitude that people have these days, rather than being specifically council house etc.
I see plenty of chav attitude idiots in very nice cars. Sad really.

When I say chav I mean 'the great unwashed' as devnull says above. The sort of people who wear track suits and have ridiculous hair and can often be found shouting insults and throwing litter at pedestrians out of the window of a moving car for the amusement of their passengers. You get the idea.

When I say 'modified' I mean a set of badly kerbed 'wolfrace' alloys, a massive fartcan exhaust from halfords, some stuck on aftermarket LED running lights (to make it look like an R8 obviously) and some viper stripes.

Mk1 TTs are firmly in chav/barry boy price territory now. Mk2 still generally expensive enough secondhand to keep them away from such idiots but it's only a matter of time.

Any desirable car that gets to a certain price bracket will suddenly become Chav, according to PH. Best thing to do is to ignore entirely what other people drive.

not at all! if i enjoyed driving with my knees up round my shoulders and my head touching the roof i'd have one in a heartbeat! wink
i did consider one for 'er in doors' but when we went to test one i had to have the seat so far back i could barely reach the wheel and gears . . . not an ideal driving style, and not sure 6'+ers were in mind for TT owners wink

as for the term chav, each area i think has its different category, i consider chavs to be the fart'zorst brigade/hoody wearing/monster stickerd/tesco cruising/revlimit bouncing knobs wink

I think the OP is referring to the Corsa/Saxo fan boys from a few years ago. loads of kids from my school are now in golfs and audis pimped to the max. and they used to have a body kitted saxo usually with lots of primer and filler on show.

however I would imagine the OP would list me in this category if he spotting me making progress.

Oh yes. The street where I grew up is a great example of this, estate agents describe it as 'affordable and highly sought after'. X5s have just started to appear, complete with ridiculous alloys.
