Offset question??

Hello,

I want to order Team Dynamics Tornado wheels.
The size in 17" is only 7*17 ET38!

Will they fit without problems?

Check my reply in the "How to post a picture" topic. Should be ok, just check the clearance on the fronts. Are you sure you want to retract the wheels in from the arch though?

I know that 7,5 and 8,0 is better but the only size with these wheels is 7,0*17 ET38.
Wiil the retraction be a lot?? Should you do it?

Assuming ET25 front and ET35 Rear

* Front wheels will retract under the wheel arch 13mm more. (13mm less clearance from inner arch

* Rear wheel will retract under the wheel arch 9mm more. (3mm more clearance from inner arch)

I had the same problem trying to get wider wheels so went for 7", just fitted 235 tyres to the rear.

Check with the tyre manufacturers. I think that you would have to fit the front tyres all round and that may upset the balance/handling of the car. I don't think that 235 will be safe on a 7" rim even if it will fit which is doubtful. You need to find different wheels (8" rims on the rear.)

Have 235/45/17 on my 7" rims, the supplier said it is the maximum you can go, I have used him for years and trust his judgement. Think another guy on here has 235's on 7" rims, would welcome his views, ie if he has had any problems.

Tyres vary slightly from one manufacturer to another but not by much really. Which manufacturer and model of tyre are you using? For example for a Toyo (fitted as standard on TVRs until recently) 8.5" is the preferred rim with an allowance to go down to 7.5.

Am using Yokohama AVS db 235/45/17. Tryed to find info on this tyre as to rim width etc but could find none. Asked the tyre place that I use and he said 225 was ideal but would be ok with 235. Spose if the tyres are to wide for the rim then it could come off during cornering? I have also herd that as a rule of thumb the rim width should be at least 70% of the tyre width.
Not sure if this is trye.

Just checked, corin Denton is running 235/40/17 on 7" rims, maybe worth checking with him. Think he used to run a tyre fitting place according to one of his posts.

For road tyres the width is normally measured at the widest point of the shoulder, and the tread is typically about an inch narrower. You want the treat width to be reasonably close to the rim width. Half an inch either way is OK, an inch is pushing your luck. This means a 205 road tyre fits nicely on a 7" rim, 225 fits nicely on a 7.5" rim. Interesting to note that competition tyres are normally measured at the tread which is why you can be recommended different nominal size tyres for the same rim depending what sort of tyre you're asking about.

Have similar type wheels fitted.
17"up front and 18" rears.

You'll need spacers on the front and ALSO
longer wheel studs all round.

You don't need spacers or longer studs if you have the correct offset. BTW how is that monster project progressing?
