Just booked upfor this. Going to be there with a Orange Clio 182 cup track prepped and an R35 GTR.

Anyone else booked for this?

It's our first time running from the new pits. Looking forward to that.

had a blast round this yesterday in one of their Lambo's.. lovely track.
However the instructor mentioned they are averaging 5 crashes/week into the new pit wall during open track days.. just to warn you!

I think he was talking BS. It's the same part of the circuit as we use when we do the GP circuit so no difference at all. Unless he emant race school days which may vary.

He was probably referring to the number of cars that end up in the new pit wall just after the exit of Club - apparently a lot of drivers lift off rather than just carry on over the rumble strip on the left when there is no need as there is so much run off.

Averaging 5 a week sounds like bull to me.

yeah sorry, open days and think yeah people losing it.. trying to save it.. and ending up in the wall! as opposed to letting it do its thing and exiting left. He said the wall's attracting alot of interest from M3's biggrin

Sounds like a desperate attempt at Billy-control to me.

it did sound excessive yes, however he said they do 3 to 4 open days a week there? so looking at it like that, just over 1 incident a day seems plausible to me. especially if people are pushing hard trying to impress friends/family watching down the pit straight perhaps..
can go to my local castle combe and see 5 off's in a single day there at quarry.. why should silvestone be any different?
im sure it may have been over inflated figure anyway but i should imagine it does happen.

As so many offs are continually occurring in the same spot surely this is given a firm mention in the briefings before anyone is let out? Not to say that simply telling someone to keep their foot in and use the available run-off is going to stop all the numptys from lifting mid corner of course... But you'd think there was a problem if people are continually going off in the same spot.

The GoldTrack briefing always warns of Woodcote and the old pit wall, then says the same applies to Club and the new pit wall.

I think there's some confusion between "open days" and the "open track days" orginially referred to. Apart from the fact there aren't 5 track days a week I'm sure the instructor was talking about (and hugely exaggerating) something that may have been happening on race school days. That's my guess anyway.

Hay Melindi,

Do you know if any braking and/or turning point markers will be out on track? (As a guide only ofcourse)

Also how many cars roughly will there be out on track at any one point?

Cheers!

We cone the circuit for turn in, apex and exit. We don't do braking points because that's like trying to guess how long a man's... (I'll shut up now)

There's a maximum of 50 cars on the day so I don't expect there to be more than 25-30 on track at any one time.

Do other people use brake boards? I can't see how you'd decide where to put them. You run the risk of either making your clients think that you think they're a bunch of jessticles or putting them somewhere that is braver than someone's talent/brake pads.

Wouldn't bother. Too many variables. But I do like the enormous [BRAKE] at Brands' Paddock Hill Bend!

Years ago we had a chap use the turn in cone as a braking cone at Copse. Needless to say, it didn't go well for him.

I must admit I may be getting the braking markers mixed up with what’s permanently on the track side of some race tracks. IIRC for example Snetts has the yardages and BRAKE boards.

Agree with both you & spiderman that placing brake markers might not be the way forward for obvious reasons...
