Highway Code and the Cyclist

Here is the scenario:-

You are cycling down a country lane (Single lane) and you are approaching a blind corner.

Do you:-

A - Stay on the outside of corner so you have a clearer view of approaching traffic and so the traffic can see you earlier

B - Stick to the left hand side of lane no matter what


Also, does the Highway Code specify or offer any guidance to circumstances of this nature?

I would stick to the left, any approching vehicles should be slowing down and keeping hard left as they approach the bend.

You never know whats around the corner. Could be a horse, and they make an awfull mess of the front of cars.

I would keep to the left. Keeping right may give you a better view of oncoming traffic. However if you do see some looney blasting towards you in a range rover out of a blind corner where are you going to go? I mean great you have seen the oncoming car maybe a second or 2 earlier. However does that really give you enough time to get back to the left and out of the way?

On the basis that all corners are unique, you have to judge according to the circumstances.

ON LH bends, I tend to move out to ensure following cars cannot overtake, which results in them not cutting in when an oncoming car appears. If they have not got the sense to make a sensible decision, you have to make it for them.

RH bends tend to keep the tintops from overtaking. If it is a blind bend, instinct tells you to keep in the middle of your side, out of the gutter grit and crud. If you can see, use as much of the road as you like.
