You'll be asking us to believe that he/she was cycling on the road next!

That was me.

Two lights fore and two aft - one steady to see and one flashing to be seen by (and none directed to car eye level). All lights BS or German type appoved.

I was wearing a hi-vis and BS standard cycling helmet. No lycra. That's just gay.

Cycling on the road, observing highway code, stopping for red lights and giving signals.

The wife thinks I look like a geek on my bike but at least I'm a live geek.

Now if those 4x4's could just fk off and stop being bully boy wkers life would be even better.

Oh god, not the whole 4x4 thing? HBGT will be in in a moment posting videos from the Netherlands, and throwing down the gauntlet to 4x4 folks!

Sorry, it's cos I'm in Essex and it's full of bling blings in credit-tastic RRS and the ilk driven by people who always, without fail, will be doing something as well as driving and consequently drive very badly.

I rode home last night on mine with my new Magicshine MJ872 and Electron Nano, total cost £123, replaces my Hope Visions 2 that cost £170, on the back I have 2 £20 Cateye lights (in case one fails) and a cheap red led flasher on my helmet (ooo er missus) so drivers can see me over hedges.

However much I spend on lights, however much consideration I give to not causing a delay there is always a driver ready to compromise my safety to gain a few seconds, when in my car I like making progress but never at the expense of someone else, other road users deserve respect, I always make a point of raising a hand to a driver that has been patient in thanks as I do appreciate it, I can cope with the odd close overtake (it keeps me on my toes) but I don't like being terrified, I wont ever ride two abreast and I avoid main roads if there is an alternative.

Sometimes the biggest petrolheads are actually cyclists, honest, none that I know I eco Lentalists, we are merely saving expensive miles for when they count in very thirsty cars.

Then blame the drivers not the car. Theres plenty of bad drivers in non 4x4s as well you know.

Yes sorry you're right - they do attract them rather a lot round here due to having to keep up with the Jones' on school runs. Plenty of poor driving in all vehicle types but the bigger and more expensive the worse the driving standards in Essex.

Not a particular comment on this thread but just a general observation - funny isn't it, how a generic moan at 4x4 drivers gets jumped on as unfair stereotyping, but a generic moan at cyclists generally seems to be acceptable. hehe

Have you read recent cycling threads? It's like a pandoras box. Plenty of cyclists on here to back up that side.

I think if people look very carefully they'll see plenty of poor driving in ordinary cars, your Astra's and Focus' but nobody remembers it as they're so common. You can spot the person who's just bought a car far too big for them and doesnt know how wide it is, the one who takes 17 attemps to park it and its still 8 feet from the side of the road etc.

I jumped on this as im looking at purchasing a BMW after years in Ford's, Peugeot's and the like and i dont want to think that someones opinion of me in my Mondeo would instantly change just because i get in a different car.

I'm going to try riding to work next week - mainly to try and loose weight (2 st so far). 20 miles so might be a tad ambitious, but what the hell. I actually find buses the most frightening road vehicles when on the bike.

Thats a good point. Who thought it was a good idea to make a Bus and cycle lane? Positively frightening.
