Another What Car? thread: New model year or higher spec?
Discussion
So, if your OH was wanting to change a 57 plate RR Vogue TDV8 for a Discovery 4 and was expecting the new car to be "low 40's" and insisting it was main dealer sourced....
Would you advise the purchase of a low spec XS MY12 version, like this one for instance
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...
Or a high spec HSE MY11 version, like this one for instance
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...
Use of vehicle is general driving about, often with 2 or more kids in... raisins squashed everywhere, footprints where you would least expect them, that type of thing.
Expect to keep car for 4, maybe 5 years and do about 15k / year

Out of the two I'd go for the HSE.
In reality I'd be sticking with what you've got......
I know you what you mean Dearfoot, I would really like to swap the RR for one of the current 4.4TDV8s (and have even offered to pay the difference between the low 40's she is expecting and the low 50's needed to do so, but she is insisting on a Disco "because it has 7 seats" (2 of which would be used once, or maybe twice, a year by my estimation). In reality I'd be sticking with what you've got......

12MY XS every time.
The 8sp Gearbox changes the whole nature of the car and the extra 10PS makes a difference too.
Unless you want the extra features of the HSE go 12MY XS as it now gets the Nav with TMC.

MY12 is significantly different to MY11
in particular it has the 8 speed gearbox
Hmmm, I wasn't aware of this. Does the eight speed (anybody else think this sounds like overkill?) box give any benefits such as reduced CO2, tax etc?in particular it has the 8 speed gearbox
I'd still take the HSE though, the interior looks a far nicer place to be.
