So, if your OH was wanting to change a 57 plate RR Vogue TDV8 for a Discovery 4 and was expecting the new car to be "low 40's" and insisting it was main dealer sourced....

Would you advise the purchase of a low spec XS MY12 version, like this one for instance

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...

Or a high spec HSE MY11 version, like this one for instance

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...

Use of vehicle is general driving about, often with 2 or more kids in... raisins squashed everywhere, footprints where you would least expect them, that type of thing.

Expect to keep car for 4, maybe 5 years and do about 15k / year

Just a thought but why are you buying a luxury high-spec 4x4 when you really need a cheap, wipe-clean people carrier?

If it was my O/H, I would be doing everything I possibly could to convince her to buy the highest spec possible & not to worry about the reg plate being 1 year older. I just couldn't stomach the significantly greater depreciation suffered by the lower specs.

In short, go for spec not age (especially if they're only a year apart) if you don't want it to do its nut in depreciation.

I too would go for the better spec.

Interesting thread.

I'm thinking of doing exactly the same with my 08 TDV8 Vogue.

I think the slightly better higher spec would be the better buy too.

Best Spec for me. So HSE wins.
But that's always been my history.
Never want to feel I could have had better for my loot.

HSE every time, makes a good difference to resale. Leather is wipe down and you can get full rubber mats for boot and floor.

the MY12 has the 8 speed gearbox and some significant changes to the interior...

haven't driven one yet, decision will only be made after back to back test drives I think.

I am expecting the 8 speed to be a significant influencer on my decision and maybe OH will even notice it (!)
