Just been offered cheap;y a fairly tatty but running & legal Landrover, 2.2 Petrol 1984. I was looking for something for winter, and although this could be painfully slow sounds like fun. It is an ex MOD, pick up, previously registered as a fire tender, and as such is tax free.

My question is, can I leave it like this, re tax for free without any suspicious calls from DVLA, anyone got experience of this ... as a bonus, anyone know if I could get through the London congestion charge without paying ?

Lastly how slow is a 2.2 Landy !

Faster than the 2.2 Diesel which is based on the same engine hehe I think they'll touch 80 on a good day.

How fast is a 2.25? Not very! I had my S2a off the clocks a couple of times downhill wind assisted. That had overdrive and freewheeling hubs, which helped.

To be honest anything more than 50 starts to be a bit of a struggle. I once timed the (indicated) 0-60mph time. It took 20 seconds to reach 50, and a further 40 seconds to make the last 10mph to 60.

Regarding driving into London or even within the M25, will it fall foul of the new Low Emission Zone rules which are about to include vans, pick-ups etc?
I suppose if it's registered as an emergency vehicle, it could be exempt. (This might have been what you meant by your question) smile

I managed to hit 100 in my series 3 2.25 petrol, mind you that had a few upgraded components on bigger tyres and it was downhill on a still day. I pulled into the nearest layby to change my underwear while the disco driver that had been following me kept saying how he was struggling to keep up.
