What's the do's and dont's of screen cleaning?

Got a new (secondhand) screen which "fell off a BBC lorry" which is being borrowed at the moment.

Unfortunately someone stuck a sticky label (the sort you'd use for laser printing addresses) across a portion of it. Don't want to attack it too hard for fear of damaging the screen.

DON'T use green scouring pads.

A girl I know used them to get bird poo off her brand new VW Polo and was somewhat suprised at the results.

I'd use a piece of kitchen roll and some meths to dissolve the adhesive. Press very lightly though, let the solvent do the work, not the rubbing.

I was under the impression to NOT use alcohol based solvents on TFT screens. I could (and very probably am) be wrong but find out for definite first.

Got a little sideline on these, leave them in a damp place for 48 hours e.g. garage, then a wet cloth will do the trick with some normal glass cleaner, the 50p for 20 gallons from Aldi etc..
