Forza 4 good? bad?
Discussion
Just waiting for disk 2 to install so have a few minutes spare...
Was Gran Turismo mad, until I saw Forza 2, anyway had to buy a 360 and the game. Excellent, as was 3.
Forza 4?
Only played for 30 mins but my initial impressions are:
Not enough new cars
Odd graphics on cars
Fantastic feel to steering and suchlike
Better difficulty setting (between medium and hard on 3)
I keep getting given free cars only worth 100, still annoying like all other Forza games
I never managed to get a 250 GTO, glad they're half the price this time round
Anyway... Think it should be ready. There better be lots of new cars for me to buy. I want a Talbot Sunbeam, and a MK3 Escort XR3

It's definitely Forza 3.5. It's got a minor graphical overhaul and all the DLC cars from Forza 3. Sadly, the excellent Rallye Positano road track is gone, in fact there aren't really many road tracks in the game which is a real shame.
The car selection is good. It's nice to see some 90's Japanese stuff and Ford Cosworths (finally). The handling is as superb as ever too, but there are a lot of crap cars too, particularly the Aygo/C1/107 class stuff and the American muscle cars. In a game where there aren't many cars to start with, thats a bit of a shame.
It's better than the slop that was GT5, but it's not a massive leap forward for the series.

The plus points:
- Graphics are ace
- Feels faster than FM3
- Some good cars to drive
- 80% (at least) of the cars in the starting line up were in FM3, in all honesty I can hardly see a difference as I had FM3 and all of the car packs
- The Aygos / 107s etc are s
t. "Where Dreams are Driven" - does anyone dream about driving this econobox s
t? - No new long road courses ala Kaido, and Rallye De Positanto is now the Almafi Coast short loop track, not the 8 mile epic it used to be. f
king dump. Taking out long road courses so they could add some dull tracks, not cool.
Yes, it's not just me that's a bit let down then, I mean don't get me wrong it's bloody awesome, but.... well yeah, as above.
It's marking my cornering and passes - odd, for what?
I have turning in simulation and often snake an crash.
Free parts upgrades is odd, my Citroen C1 is an S
And just like 3 I don't want to do career mode, just yet.

I'm going to wait until its on offer somewhere, the new track list is frankly a huge disappointment to me and seems to have catered for the American market - The Top Gear track is the only update to have any appeal to me personally and this alone doesn' warrant buying a whole new game.
In my opinion the good points far outweigh the bad. There are plenty of complaints about why theres no Porsche, Bathurst, Spa etc... but what we do have is a stonking game. I could list my Forza car/track/feature wishlist but that would essentially include everything not currently in Forza 4 which is rather pointless!
The sounds are amazing, the cars look great as do the tracks for the most part. The Top Gear license has injected a greater sense of fun into the game and offers some entertaining alternatives to simply trying to do the fastest lap.
The only small gripes I have with it so far are to do with some of the track layouts, namely the GP circuit at Indianapolis and Nurburgring being slightly incorrect, No new Silverstone and Suzuka not having been updated with the new pits. Small issues that dont detract from the enjoyment of the game.

I think we've become massively spoilt as gamers.
Forza 4 has:
Hundreds of cars
Loads of tracks (ok, ok, so thruxton and castle coombe aren't in there)
Variable times of day
Great graphics with nice polish
Fantastic tuning and customisation options
Online adding infinite possibilties
Great handling physics
Does a good job of capturing automotive passion
Great sounds....
And yet people STILl bemoan the fact that their particualr favorite track isn't in it, or certain cars aren't represented. Yes ,Porsche is a loss, but we have RUF!
It's a £35 game, and I think it represents astounding value for money. It'll only grow and improve with updates and DLC as well.
Just think what you got in a racing game for £35 pre Gran Turismo! Or, go back and play Gran Turismo 1 and remind ourselves how far racing games have come in a decade (and a bit).
Personally I'm like a Pig in Muck. Forza 4 is great fun.

It's marking my cornering and passes - odd, for what? The better your passing, cornering, drifting or drafting, the more XP you earn.
I have turning in simulation and often snake an crash. To be honest, simulation steering is more suited to a steering wheel. If you're using a pad, you have to be very gentle with steering inputs, especially if you're drifting. If you turn it back to normal, it'll be like FM3.
Free parts upgrades is odd, my Citroen C1 is an S
Yeah, I'm not too sure on this either. However it does mean more cash for cars!

The graphics are much better than 3, so is the sound, all rumbly with burbles and pops. The handling is also much better, the cars actually feel like cars now with better weight shift and better drift control. Love the improved brake feel, no longer having riddiculus early lock ups. A couple more circuits, an X1/9 and Escort mk1 it'd be about perfect.. oh and sort the 92 NSX out, who the **** modeled that?
Looking into it more, I agree with the comment that FM3 spoiled us. Yes we can all think of cars we'd like to see, but in reality Turn 10 have done a good job of canvassing what the majority of enthusiasts would want to see. I still think there are too many 70s Muscle cars though, and they are all pretty samey.
The loss of Rallye De Positano is gutting, but in it's place we have a smaller selection of frankly stunning tracks. I used to hate Driving Suzuka etc in FM3 because the tracks looked so empty, like a cardboard movie set rather than a real track. Now, they all look stunning. The cars feel much more realistic now, with turbo cars having a real shove, VTEC kicking in etc, and they sound far, far better than they did in FM3. In some cases when playing FM3 I was convinced the developers never saw or heard certain cars in person (they confirmed this) and had no idea how they sounded, so they just made it up. In some cases, they got it really, really wrong - none of that this time around, everything sounds broadly as it should.
I am still miffed that you cannot change the exhaust appearance though, I still want to put a Jap cannon on an Skyline instead of a twin exhaust and tuneable exhaust tones (with sliders for more bass, mids, treble etc) would have been nice.

Have now turned steering simulation off, and rewind off. Finally found a happy medium. I want extra credits!
I think I have about 15 cars, and only 2 of which I paid for myself:
Ford Escort Cosworth
Ferarri 355
I try to race in one Make until the parts become free.
Playing in Career mode, but don't seem to be getting any "championship bonus" or "season bonus" or suchlike...
