Any (wild) bird experts?
Discussion
We're fortunate to have frequent visits to the garden from Tawny Owls. I'd be keen to put up a nest box as we have some mature trees which would be suitable.
My query is, would this result in more or less nocturnal calling if they nested - that is, do they call in the vicinity of their nest site, or are they quieter?
I ask because Mrs BFB not keen to have a pair of "noisy owls" breeding in the garden, so it would be helpful if it actually reduced calling.
I've re-read that - and yes it sounds ridiculous to me, too!
Thoughts, anyone?

I've a feeling that calling is territorial behaviour to defend food sources when these are scarce, ie. in winter.
There are loads of tawnys where I live but yet I only ever hear them in winter. Scrapping on the roof, they're noisy buggers!
I personally think that food is their main priority (mice, voles, etc) and nest boxes won't encourage them into the area without an abundance of this.
The flip side being that if there's lots of food about, you won't get rid of them.
