I can just about do 50 burpees back to back but I really slow up when I hit 30 and then the last ten the lactic acid makes it so so hard.

A five minute gap isn't enough for me to do another 50.

Equipment required none
Special area required to do the activity anywhere with enough height for the star jump.

Do 50 of these a day 7 days a week you will become extremely fit in a short period of time and have true stamina.

Sod £50pcm gym membership fancy equipment just an area the size of a single bed shorts and t shirt and ready supply of water and that's all you need.

True stamina? From 50 burpees?

I will openly argue you will not be extremely fit nor will you have true stamina.

You will however increase cardio vascular fitness and become effective at that particular exercise.

What you won't ever do is have a great body or a great overall level of fitness.

They are quite a good conditioning exercise and can be fun to do - as others have said though, they aren't the holy grail of fitness and your body will quickly become efficient at doing them, lessening their effectiveness.

I'm not really a fan of bodyweight exercise for this reason, as your body becomes better and more efficient at said exercises, you either have to increase reps and sets to silly amounts to generate enough intensity, or use strap-on weights which sort of negates the point of bodyweight exercises for me. As a conditioning tool they are fantastic and you can challenge yourself a lot by aiming for greater intensities.

A few years back I'd have been stood beside you in agreeing that all you need are bodyweight exercises - the problem is that since then I moved on to resistance training and the results speak for themselves: I am now far stronger and have better stamina as a result of weight training with the added benefit that I no longer resemble Christian Bale from The Machinist.

Incidentally I just tried said challenge and did the first two sets fine and failed the last set - Not too far off, which is quite pleasing to see. smile

Good effort.

Would be interesting to see how many here can actually do it. Three sets of 50 5 mins max gap between each set.

I'd agree- bet no one on here is fit enough to knock out 100 burpees- they are a fantastic conditioning tool and excellent for weight loss. However, they won't make you much stronger- need more kg for that.

Have a look here- http://rosstraining.com/blog/ - this guy is a beast and he swears by them. (that site is pretty ace for loads of training ideas)

I'm pretty sure that the SAS and military all include burps as part of their training and its an absolute killer.

It doesn't sound much
Squat
Kick out pressup
Squat
Starjump

Repeat over and over it really drains hour energy quickly and you need to be very fit to do lots of them.

It will not make you ripped but instead it will quickly reduce weight and increase fitness I guess biceps would increase with the pressup aspect and your stomach will get very flat but as no situps you will not get a six pack. Legs and hips far a good work out from the squats and star jumps.

I just think it's something anyone can do and get better at without any need for fancy kit of any kind. Bare feet is perfect no need for shoes.

Soon as my thumb/wrist is fixed and I can do the pressups I'm going to have a go - reckon I could given how few/short my rest periods are and the number of free squats I can do. Could add to the weight loss/fitness.
