Hi All

My Father picked up his new (used) car and the dealer had just taken the car to an Audi bodyshop to have the rear bumper sprayed, cue today and somebody grazed the back frown

Followed them until they came to a stop and got their details, however they are suggesting that their friend who works/owns www.perfect-paint.co.uk in Bristol do the work.

They seem to be used by a well known local non franchised Jag dealer and the facilities appear to be on spec. Could therefore avoid all the hassles of insurance and a no fault claim.

What would you suggest doing? and I am guessing we should still log the incident with our insurers in case they don't come through.

Strictly legally - you should log the claim.

This gives the benefit that should the other party pay for work, which then turned out to be unsatisfactory, you could have the backing of your insurance company to help you.

On other hand, not something I would recommend you do -
If you do not intend to get your insurance involved and would rather pay for it yourself, should the other party renege on their agreement to get it fixed .... Did the incident happen ?

Depends on the insurers, some will count it against you, my insurance cost an extra £200 this year due to a non-fault accident last year. Legally speaking you're supposed to notify them of any accident or incident.

theres a very strong chance your insurance will increase if you mention it , if you happy with the offer of repair at the other drivers place then i would say nothing

remember it sticks with you for 5 years

Thanks for all the replies, going to speak to the chap later today and decide from there.

I know this might be obvious but as its at teh Audi bodyshop ( and presumably its an Audi) why arent you asking the Audi bodyshop to fix it and give matey the bill?
If he doesnt want to do, he can go through insurance

I cant see what benefit it is to you going elsewhere?

Sorry I meant it was a new car to us and the dealer we bought it from put it through the bodyshop (so the bumper was freshly sprayed just a few days ago)...roll on today and bang frown

Legal or not, sorted out something similar with cash last year.

Saved mountains of hassle.

Isn't that always the way smash
If matey's mate from the bodyshop repairs it and youre not happy what are you going to do?
It's hassle as soon as you have a bump, you have to decide what's minimum hassle to you and what you want at the end
Without knowing how bad a 'graze' it is, it could still be worth getting a quote from the audi guys.
Most people dont tell their insurers about smart repairs - has the dealer mentioned the bumper to his?
However you are supposed to, even if you dont want to claim, and especially if it starts beginning to look messy
