A forced change

Nearly three weeks ago now I was stationary in queing traffic near the end of the motorway (m69/m1 junc 21) when the driver behind me didn't notice that everyone had stopped. This resulted in her ploughing into me without any attempt to brake, leaving me with a fairly bent impreza.
It's all being sorted by my insurance company and they have supplied me with a very nice courtesy car.
It's got the 3 litre twin turbo engine and more toys than you can shake a very big stick at! I have particularly enjoyed having a heated steering wheel and being able to put the roof down is something I've really missed. The downsides have been that no one ever lets you out from a junction in it and I've been called a w
ker several times.
I was told earlier this week that my car was definitely being written off so I've been on the search for a replacement. I'm not sure what I would like to get next, I've loved the impreza and had planned on keeping it for another 18 months at least so while I have a think about what it's permanent replacement will be I've gone down the barge route.
I ave no real need for a lot of seats and storage space, I have no kids and I'm 31 but for some reason I fancied a volvo estate. I had a look around and I've picked up a 2001 v40. It's the T4 model though so it's fairly quick but it doesn't handle or stop anything like the impreza did. Unfortunately for my credibility more than anything the best one I could find was in beige and has an auto box. Even the bloke at the insurance company took the piss. It's only done 53k and cost £1800 so they can laugh all they want, it's a lot of car for the money.
It wafts along pretty nicely, the seats are really comfortable and heated leather. The stereo sounds good but most of all it's pretty anonymous, I've got a feeling I could leave this anywhere and no one will touch it.
I have no idea how long i'll keep it for but it'll do me for now.

Shame about the Impreza, but at least you were thinking of changing it in the future - it wasn't a forever car!
You did well with the courtesy car, but then again its probably contributing to our high premiums.
Can't beat a Volvo for what you need it for until you make a decision on what you want next, could even keep it as a 2nd car?

The BMW looks amazing as a courtesy car. Like the colour combo alot.
Volvo is a good stop-gap.
I quite like the number plate aswell.
Any idea on a replacement?

I'm particularly anal about cleaning my cars so the impreza what pretty much mint condition, it's a shame it's been written off but at least I don't have to deal with the 'init' crowd that these cars attract when selling them.
As the accident wasn't my fault I'm apparently entitled to an equivalent car, as the impreza is a fast saloon thats what my insurance car offered me but it would have been a couple of days till they could supply one to me so I was offered the z4 as they could get it me quicker and it was the same cost.
It's a very nice car to drive and makes a fantastic noise when you head towards the redline. I've not driven a straight 6 before or RWD other than an MX5 a few years ago, so I have been very careful with it. It's also not my car so I didn't want to explain to the rental company why it was wrapped around a lamp post. The double clutch gearbox is very smooth and it doesn't really feel like I've been missing out on the gear changes, the paddles are quite good if you feel the need.
I dread to think about how much it's costing to rent and in an effort to reduce the costs it's going back early. Apparently I can keep it until 7 days after I receive the settlement cheque but as the volvo is on the road I'm letting them have it back even though I've not had the cheque yet.
I already have a 2nd car, a classic mini but thats not on the road at the minute. If the volvo proves to be reliable I'm tempted to get the mini sorted and sell it and get something else as a toy, for some reason I'm drawn to the z4m roadsters in the classifieds. If it ends up being a nightmare I have no idea what I'll do.
