Steering Column Adjustment
Discussion
When I sit in the driver's seat in my Wedge and I'm holding the steering wheel, the steering wheel and column is angled slightly to the left. In other words it's not pointing directly at me. Now I know that the steering column can be lowered and adjusted for height (vertically) but there is no adjustment to left and right(horizontally). I can remember vaguely from a previous post that someone mentioned how the steering column can be adjusted for horizontal movement by releasing some bolts somewhere down the column. What I want to know is this. What do I have to dismantle to get to those bolts and how difficult is this job. Though it doesn't actually affect the driving it's just bugging me and I want to correct it, and anyway, if it's going to point anywhere other than the centre it should be pointing towards the door as that is my posing position in the driver's seat (sitting sideways, right arm hanging out). Any ideas would be welcome from someone who may have tackled this job before. So, 'Don't be Cruel' and lets have some suggestions, so as I can have 'Little Less Conversation And More Action'.

I had exactly the same problem. I figured that what was needed was a differing stack of washers on each side of the column where the two bolts hold the column to the supporting steelwork.
So I took all the washers out, made one stack higher than the other, put them back in and... exactly the same.
So I took all the washers out, made one stack (even) higher than the other, put them back in and... exactly the same.

So I took all the washers out, made one stack (ludicrously) higher than the other, put them back in and... exactly the same.

Then I got bored of that game and went to do something else instead.
If you work it out, please tell me how you do it.

The only solution to this is to disconnect the steering column from the upper steering UJ and changing the bulk head bearing if it's shot. You can then center the steering wheel to the desired location before re-setting the bearing with a new roller type as an upgrade as the old ford item is rather s

te IMO.Wedg1e. I like your sense of humour. When I've worked it out I'll let you know and you can take notes from the master.
The bulk head bearing replacement makes sense because on my Wedge it looks like it was changed recently before I bought the car, and it seems when they placed the four bolts onto the body to secure the bulkhead bearings to the body, they did it out of line. Hence the steering is out and slightly facing one way. (may be the fitter had poor eyesight). The question is what now? I am going to examine it again but if all is well I may leave it as is because it looks like everything has already been replaced and it would be a shame to start over again. Any suggestions?

Aha, having re-read the thread I see that I misunderstood the issue
I thought you meant the column was TWISTED (so that the stalk switches aren't level, if you like); now I realise you mean it's offset to left or right. There is a small amount of adjustment laterally because the bracket that holds the column to the steelwork behind the dash has slotted holes, but we're only talking 2-5mm tops.
