Fungus in a lens

If a lens has fungus, what are the issues you would likely face? How easy is it to fix?

Might have a noticeable effect or it might not - best way is to try the lens and see if it has gone soft. Removing the growth is going to involve completely dismantling the lens and you may find that the coating on the elements has been damaged. Probably not worth it unless it's a very special lens or you fancy having a go yourself.

I've got an old Tamron 70-210 with this problem. I'll probably have it to bits one day and it should be very interesting to see how it's put together. I won't be too surprised if reassembly isn't at all straightforward, perhaps requiring special tools that I don't have - in that case it'll go in the bin, but at least I'll have learned something.

Depends. If its on a rear elemebt it could have a significant effect on calrity, contrast and also autofocus.

If its a small amount on the front element it'll hardly be noticable.
