TVR Door Mirror Glass

Need your help please guys and in return I may in the future be able to return the favour.

I need to know what glass Door mirrors are used on the various TVR models

I know that the Chim/Griff uses a Citroen CX 25 glass.

So what do the other TVR models owners hunt for when you need a replacement?

Tuscan = VW Corrado
350 = VW Corrado
Tamora?
Sag?
Cerbie = VW Corrado
Wedges
Classics?
Etc......

Just out of interest what did you pay and did you feel that the price charged was acceptable?

Tuscan uses VW Corrado door mirrors.

Glass from a VW dealer was about £40, I got mine from a TVR dealer for £20! Have seen original glass up to £70 as its hard to find. Copies on ebay for £10 ish

I can also confirm VW Corrado door mirror glass used on the T350c as well, dirt cheap to buy from ebay

last time I needed glass I had to replace the whole unit as it decided it no longer wanted to be part of the chim.

New complete unit including motors and heated glass was IIRC £70 on ebay ready to paint. £30 for the paint job, another £30 to have it wired up and fitted.

Thats what I recall anyway, when I next have my receipts handy I will check the exact prices. The cost of the unit and glass was about half that being charged by the usual suspects at the time.

For info:
I went to my local branch of Euro Carparts(Spares?) when I broke the powered gimbal in the mirror of my V8S.

Apparently, Euro bought all the 'old stock' Citroen car spares from the UK warehouse. I bought a complete CX mirror, unpainted, but with everything there for about £75....this was 6 years ago though.

The part was delivered in 2/3 days, I used the innards on my existing mirror and sold the shell and metal spider & frame on PH for about 20 quid.

Might be useful to someone.

Someone has stuck a replacement mirror over the top of my original, and now red, T350 mirror, so i assumed they were hard to get hold of. Seeing as they are relitively inexpensive, how hard are they to replace, and still keep the heated bit working. It may be a good time to point out that i sometimes have trouble knowing which end of the screwdiver to use!

Its simple

you need a wide bladed screwdriver and a cloth or pad

Use the blade of the screwdriver between the glass and the mirror housing to gently prise the mirror out. The cloth or pad you use to protect the mirror case so you don't mark it with the screwdriver.

The mirror will click out of the holder, then just slide off the spade connectors for the heating element.

Connect new mirror glass (make sure its one with a backplate) to the wires for the heating element, bring it up to the housing, line it up and push gently in the middle of the glass until it clicks into place.

Job Jobbed. Took me less than 5 mins

I bought a heated convex ebay mirror glass with mounting plate (which i didnt use). I was being fussy as my old mirror had deliminated slightly at the bottom and had gone brown.

The ebay mirror needed tidying up with a grinding stone ont he outside but TBH after that is was as good as the original, and heating works.

£12 IIRC.

Tuscan mk1 by the way, VW corrado glass.

I have just bought a used VW Corrado door mirror glass for my T350C and it is different..

The Corrado door glass is the same size as the T350C but the backing is completly different

My 54 T350c has a long curved plactic prong coming from near the outside edge of the backing and much smaller spade connectors (like speaker connectors) and had an 04 manufacturing stamp in the plastic (made in Germany). See the picture below:



The 91 Corrado Mirror that I bought has nothing sticking out of the back and standard size spade connectors?

Any thoughts on what might fit my car?
