Anyone know of common failures on the cabrio version's roof cables and how they come apart? I have a friend asking for help and I'm starting to wish I'd never seen it. The left hand catch seems stuck at the B pillar and it's caused the cables to chew up. I've located a repair kit but I'm still struggling to get the roof apart without ripping the vinyl. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The motors are fine but Smart want £1700 to repair it and she just hasn't got that sort of money so muggins here has volunteered.

take the roof bars out by pass the micro switch in the b pillar area opperated by a pin on the roof bars press the button to close the roof and the roof will come apart, make sure you catch the sliders and springs etc as in moves towards you also watch where they all go

Thanks Si. I'll have another go at it today. Almost gave up hope of getting it apart without losing my rag.

That was a great help Si!

Trouble was the left catching plate had stuck which caused everything to jam up. To get it apart I've had to take the catch off with the roof runners in it and the roof attached. 'Kin nightmare!

Do you have to take the fabric off the roof to get at the cable mechanisms? It looks like it but I'm really loathe to start pulling the fabric off unless I really have to. Be grateful if you could throw some light on it.
