VR. IS. Who's going to need it?

I trust this amazing product (when it comes)
is better than this presentatiion.

VR/IS, if used full time, also helps stabilise the image when composing.
I have a few products installed that claim to deal with camera movement (or any movement I suppose) up to a point and in a single direction. They are very limited and seem to demo better than they actually work. They can beef up the apparent focus on a soft image but no more.
That's not to say that such adjustments could not be made to work reasonably well on certain types of shot. Anything that is relatively static and not too finely detailed offers possibilities. In fact if it's bad enough you could bin half the info to make the process simpler and still impress people. Heck that what compressed jpgs do anyway.
More complex images with subjects at greater distance variations from the lens/will be more difficult - unless the camera traps distance to subject information for blocks of pixels. Plus there's a need need to include lens correction data.
It would be really interesting to know if the 'parameter files' apparently loaded during the demo were what we were told they were and, if they are, what they provided for the 'analysis' process.

The problem is there is all kinds of parallax issue when you move the camera during an exposure. It'll never really work to fix a bad shot, maybe it'll just make a bad shot usable, just, in the best situation.
I don't believe this will ever be good enough to recover all the image quality that would be there on a still shot.
There is a good chance that stuff in shot moves too, especially if it was wobbly to start with (longer exposure) so you have two sources of movement in the image. Eeek.
The trouble is anyone who leaves the shoot without all the shots they need really needs to get better first, not try have software save them later.
No doubt in 10yrs we'll shoot through F22 > f1 in one exposure, with about 12 stops of range in that pass, all in 1/100th of a second... with all the CA and vignetting compensated for in shooting via lens corrections etc. Bam, one 'mega' file with everything in it.
VR/IS will STILL help us get the shots that we wouldn't have been able to without it!
