Neighbour has no tax - should I..?
Discussion
Next door neightbour's tax on his car ran out end of July, I can understand a few days, maybe a week but its nearly 3 months!
He uses it daily for work and its always parked on the road (its a quiet cul de sac so no passing traffic).
This means his insurance (if he has any) is invalid.
Part of me (ok, most!) wants to dob him in, he's had lots of time to buy some tax. Why should I struggle every year to buy mine plus insurance etc..
If anyone has an account with Askmid I can mail you his reg.
I'm sure most will say do it but should I have a word first?

What has your financial struggle got to do with your neighbour? I find it hard to reconcile that attitude. It seems almost as if you're saying if you could get away with it as well then that would be fine but as you can't you're going to act like some weasly rat and report him to the authorities.
If you decide you're going to do that then be a man and go round and tell him what you've done face to face.

What DVLA does about untaxed vehicles
Once you have reported an untaxed vehicle the details will be entered onto a central database. While not all enforcement activity is visible to the general public, DVLA is committed to reducing the level of vehicle excise evasion.
DVLA works with NSL Limited and operates a fleet of wheelclamping vehicles from 23 pounds across the UK. Untaxed vehicles are targeted area by area, from the nearest NSL Limited pound.
If you report an untaxed vehicle to DVLA this does not guarantee that the vehicle will be wheelclamped. Action can also be taken ‘behind the scenes’, as the law allows a late taxing penalty of £80 to be imposed on the keepers of vehicles that have been untaxed for longer than one month.
DVLA scans vehicle records constantly for untaxed vehicles and issues more than 90,000 penalties each month. This means that some untaxed vehicles in your area may have been issued with a fixed penalty and will not be wheelclamped.
Taken from DVLA website. I would have a quiet word with him on the basis of the above - "Did you know......" and give the opportunity for human error to be corrected - wouldn't you prefer this approach if the roles were reversed?

Guy is a bit of a creep but harmless.
I was trying to make the point that why should I have to pay out each year for my tax when he plainly hasn't?
Just checked DVLA site and the vehicle is down as unlicensed.
Does that mean he's got it SORN or would that show up on the DVLA site?
Just checked Askmid and its insured so thats one good thing.

Oops sorry my mistake. And it does have something to do with me because I, like most car owners actually pay for road tax/license. I have to save up each month to be able to pay for it which means I go without other things I would rather have, ditto insurance and MOT.
I will have a quick word with him next time I see him just to say has he realised his tax has run out.
