My last office chair fell apart 3-4 years ago and since then I use a dining chair. About a year ago I stsrted getting back issues, though not sure whether due to the chair or a dodgy mattress. I put a cushion on the chair and that seemed to help a bit for a while. However, my lower back is still very prone to aching and I thought a new office chair might help.

I can go to Staples and get one that looks nice, but are there any makes which are particuarly well known for being 'good' for backs?

Having had Herman's for years I recently switch to an Ergohuman....cheaper and better. Love it.

Ikea do a really good high back office seat with a 10 year warrenty, it's called Markus, and it's very supportive, including a good lumber support.
I got one after i kept getting lower back ache, and since using it when i'm at home on the PC, it's done the trick and i've not had any problems since.

Thanks very much chaps smile

In fact I couldn't wait so went off to Staples yesterday and foud one that not only seems to be much more comfortable but looks reasonably 'domestic' as my desk is also in the main living area. Can't find a photo of it on their website but it's cream leather-effect with stained wood back.

The nice thing about Staples is that you get a 14-day no-quibble guarantee - so if it proves to be unsatisfactory I have two weeks to change it.
