If you work, you'll be getting an average annual pay rise of 2.8%.

If you don't work, you'll be getting a 5.2% rise in your benefits next year.

For the love of god put the subject in the title, how many threads on here are titled with some variation of 'piss boiler'?

Hey my phone still works after I've thrown it from my second floor window although my toilet is now a wee sauna.

And the best part is the ones that work pay for the ones that don't.

Gives you a nice warm feeling doesn't it?

I know....

I actually thought this was the announcement of some new product that vapourises urine.

Would be handy for those long road trips. Would be a good replacement for the plastic bottle.

My OH works in property development/house building.

Last night she was telling me someone has bought a house from them, and been accepted for a mortgage. She's on benefits. Not disability i might add.

I really don't get it. How did they manage to get a mortgage?!
Simple, they "earn" more than you.

What benefits amount to enough to pay a mortgage?

surtely the biggest benefit anyone can claim is housing benefit, and if you have a mortgage you aren't entitled to that.

Only on an existing mortgage according to MoneySavingExpert.

MoneySavingExpert said:
I think you will find that the only people who can qualify for a mortgage without being employed are pensioners who can prove they have an income seperate to their state pension and people who are off work on the long term sick and cannot work in any paid job and therefore receive incapacity benefit or Disability Living Allownace which would count as their income. Even then there are quite a few lenders that will not accept DLA for a mortgage affordability calculation.

Nobody who is on UB40 can qualify for a mortgage on the basis that they have sufficinet income. No (mainstream) lenders will accept this as a type or proof of income. There is a lender in England that does accpet this but they have interest rates in excess of 10% to compensate for the fact that it is a VERY low income applicant and the chances of default on this type of applicant is massively higher. With typical UB40 at £130 per week this would mean a maximum loan of around £30,000 even if they could get a mortgage.

You can only claim mortgage interest relief on a mortgage that is already in place. Not on a benefit assisted mortgage from the start. You would also have to be in the mortgage contract a certain amount of time before you can claim this too or have proof positive that the circumstances were beyond your control and you could not have known about any possible redundancy etc
Seriously, if lenders are giving mortgages to the unemployed then they deserve to go tits up.

Similar to a mate of mine - stuck in a 2hr traffic jam on his way to catch a ferry, busting for a pee. Decides enough is enough and the only container he had left was his half empty flask of coffee, which he duly fills.

4 hours later he gives me a buzz, at the ferry terminal, pissed off.

It's 11pm, 300 miles from home, he's missed his ferry, there's not another one until 7 the next morning. It's -5°C, everything's shut, he can't find a B&B, he's not got a sleeping bag, he's run out of fags and he can't even get a decent cup of coffee.
Oh hang on, he says, glad I was organised - may just have a lukewarm one left in the flask . . .

Not saying you are lying, but there simply must be more to it than that

We are buying at the moment, with a 25% deposit and its not been easy getting a mortgage

I wonder if my neighbours heard my scream. I shouldn't read stuff like this during my lunch as I now have an upset stomach. My business is struggling just now because everyone else is in the same boat and I personally know some of these scrounging scum, who have hardly ever, and don't intend to work again...............Arghhhhhhhhhhh

Heads out for some fresh air and to calm down

Corrected it for you. No payrise for me in the last 3 years and it will continue that way for the next 10 probably.

They have been on benefits for two generations, while others have only been in their current employ for two years so on paper it would appear they are a good betbiggrin

And yes a better title next time please, I thought this was some sort of deflecter one fitted to a car window.
