It could be a dirty connector on the back of the rev counter - next time the dash top is off just clean the connectors thoroughly.

It worked on mine.

This was the last but one thing to sort on mine and a new bosche coil and leads/extenders seems to have done the trick!

Alright, I give in.
Is this golf club carrier you lot drive a Chimera, Chimeara or a Chimaera?

Now you see why we just call it a Chimp.

Magnecore HT leads can cause this.

They seem to have fixed it in my case. I was looking for Bosche ones but couldnt find them. I was speaking with Tim at ACT about another matter and he mentioned the guarantee on magnerco leads - 10 years exchange. He seems to be a decent bloke and the rev counter is less hyper, so happy so far!

Try getting the manufacturer/disrtibutor to exchange when you believe they arent working as they should.......nightmare & `you` are at fault, not the lead!
Tim at ACT,however, top fella although not bought anything from him in a while.

Been working on the car and the dash is off at the moment. I have spotted two black wires coming from the rev counter low down behind where a rectangular warning light is, I think. trouble is they are not connected to anything and there is nothing to connect them to. Question is should they be connected to something and if so what? any help welcome

It can be caused when the total HT path resistance becomes too low, and to prevent it you may need some extra resistive components in the HT, like resistive plug shrouds or plugs if you are running low resistance leads.

This is how they came from the factory, I have connected mine up to show when the cooling fans come one which I find quite useful.
