Example: Sat on the M42 near Birmingham and the average speed camera signs are on speeds varying from 50 to 60mph. So i'm sat doing what the speed limit says and people are whizzing past me but i'm not talking a couple of people but probably 50 or so.

Are they going to be getting tickets through the post or am I missing something?

Hi

Ones on the M42 aren't average speed cameras (if you mean the variable limit section). Regular users probably just know which of the gantries have cameras on them so slow down for those and ignore the others (or just have a speedo that is more accurate than yours).

It's Birmingham.

None of them will be properly registered vehicles so they don't care. Innit.

You can usually spot if the gantry you're about to pass under has cameras on it- because you'll spot cameras facing you on the one on the opposing carriageway. It makes little sense to double up the sites for camera access when you can put cameras for both carriageways on one gantry.

Not always. The newer set on the M6 near Birmingham (M6 / M42 junction) seem to have most of the cameras set up so there isn't a matching set on the gantry on the other carriageway.

Had a similiar situation the other day on the M25 clockwise near the Dartford crossing. Average speed camera signs everywhere so I stick on cruise and set it to 50 with most people doing the same but then also had loads of cars whizzing past me at 70+.

I've never banked on it personally, but the ones on the western M25 and M42 seem(ed) to be setup that way. Haven't been on either since last month, though.

Hi

It is one I know plenty of M25 users rely on but I am not that trusting, hence I checked the new ones on the M6. Not sure when they went live but within the last 6 months to a year I think.

Hi

Used the M6 north of the M5 last night.

On most of the gantries there were cameras on both carriageways. However the last sets before the M54 one gantry had them in one direction while the next gantry had them in the opposite direction

I use the M25 every morning (Staines to M3 junction) and the speed limit signs are nearly always on.

I find most people stick to 60 & 50 but 40 is regularly ignored.

I've even had someone undertake me (on the hard shoulder eek) when I was (almost) obeying the 40 limit frown
