I find a i can't just watch TV any more. I always seem to be online or working at the sametime.

Despite having a huge 40" HD TV, yes that is huge, not long ago the average was 21" plumbed into a pretty decent Hi-Fi, (yes Hi-Fi not MP3 docking station), it just doesn't engage me.

Normal TV viewing these days includes being on a forum at the same time at least.

Is TV that much worse when i was fully engaged watching a 21" screen in glorious mono through a 4" speaker?

Don't get me wrong here the occasional program will get me agog, normally a documentary about wild life with Sir Attenborough but otherwise it's a bit 'meh'.

Maybe i'm just old? Or suffering information overload.

Even for work if i haven't got 3 21" screens showing multiple apps i suffer from lack of info.
(Plus some music in the background).

Or maybe i'm just going insane through the available input?

I'm the same. Unless it is an old film, I don't find them as captivating as they used to be, and like some forms of music, it's good background clutter.

A well recorded album will totally absorb me still.
Nothing nicer on my commute than in with the ear buds, out with the noise and listen to some decently recorded music.

(Unfortunately decently recorded music is like hunting for a Polo mint in a snow drift these days).

I agree, I'm the same. I usually have the lappy on as well (I'm "watching" football at the moment). If its something I really want to concentrate on, I put it down but there's so LITTLE I want to watch nowadays.

I'm another tv-multitasker, which is why I enjoy the current fashion for foreign subtitled dramas (Wallander, The Killing, Crime Novel etc.) as it forces you to give the programme your full attention.

Me too, unless it's one of the 2-3 programmes a week that get my undivided attention.

The answer is Sky+/Virgin+.

I rarely watch live TV anymore, I simply record programmes that I want to watch and then watch them at a later date. Across all of the channels available on Sky, I can usually find an hour a night that I want to record, which builds up a sufficient back log to ensure I've always got something I want to see avialable.

It makes watching programmes with adverts bearable too - you can just fastforward straight through them.

Same here. I plus stuff and watch it as I am on the pc.
However some programmes demand full attention, The Wire, The Sopranos, layered programmes.
Sometimes though I shall be sat watching a show and feel a tad restless...like I am not maximising my time or something.

Totally agree with you lot telly is rubbish these days what with repeats from stuff from the 70's.
I record anything that interests me, (motor sport documentaries) and watch them at 2x speed slowing down for the interesting bits !.

the other thing that gets on my t1t5 is the constant laughter overlayed ontop of the shows SHMBO watches, I am sure (like the frog ribbit)there is only one track of the bloody stuff
