A mate of mine's firm is getting rid of one of their old company cars which is a 2001 (Y) Subaru Impreza WRX with 104k miles and full service history. Its that dark blue colour and is unmodified. I believe it is in average condition for age, the odd car park mark and needs some tyres soon. So, whats it worth? Just roughly, I know it's not possible to give an accurate price without seeing it!

I've always fancied one, and thought it could be a good winter / weekend toy!

Yeah I guess that's what I thought. They aren't worth much are they! What would a really tidy one of these with 104k sell for? AutoTrader seems to suggest £2600-3000. Do you think they are actually selling at that price?

It's worth about £1500 and it's only worth £2000 to sell if your lucky. However with snow fast approaching us a lot of people are looking for cheap 4wd cars to get them through the winter while they park there BMW/MERC rear wheel drive cars up.

I assume its the Bugeye model so if it is £1500 grab it as its a bit of a bargain !

£1500 and then spend a few hundred on a professional detailer. It'll be back to mint condition, protected over winter and so long as the servicing has been kept up to date it'll be a friend for life.

I believe I could buy the car for around £1500. My intention was to run it for the winter and sell for a profit next year. However it doesn't sound like there's much of a profit in it and I could do without tying my money up in more depreciating lumps of metal. Maybe I should pass the opportunity!?

Well most cars are depreciating lumps of metal, maybe you could break even and get your money back if you look after the car, depends what you want really.

1500 quid. IMO no point busting your arse 'detailing it' as the miles are high and there are plenty out there with less...

£1500 is about right, but the peeople who'd wanta buy it at that price would struggle to insure it [young kids etc]. If you can afford to insure an impreza, then you would buy a better car for not much more money £3K would get you one thats 3~4 years younger with much lower miles, and in better nick.
hope this helps.

Guys, thanks for all your input. I have declined the car at £1400. This was based on all your points, and the thought of the kids I would have turning up to view the car...

I'll buy a new front door and some a glass splashback for the kitchen instead!

I'd have bought it at 1400 quid and I'm in the trade. At that money it would turn a decent profit even with the miles.

£1500??! for a 2001 Impreza thats crazy! Performance per Pound can't be bad for £1500, seems like all these old/older perfromance Jap cars are worth nothing these days!
