I'm in Liverpool now for University and my MX5 is sitting at home in the rain. I'm in the process of finding a shed to put it in over the winter, and I think it's going in next week. The TAX is up now at the end of October and the Insurance is paid until next year, but it's up for the MOT in December.

It will need some work for the MOT, but I don't know wether or not to take it off the road over the holidays. If I decided to not TAX it, and let it sit until the MOT, should I SORN it or does it matter? It's likely to sit until December at some stage.

The DVLA will be looking to fleece you if you don't tax it, even if it's kept off the road.

If you're not driving it, might be best to sorn it for a couple of months.

Insurance wise, may cost you more in the long run to put it on laid up cover than it would to just keep the current policy going. How long is left on that?

SORN it just before the tax runs out otherwise you get a nice letter.
Depending on your insurance costs you may be better off keeping the insurance in place.
You're allowed to drive it to an MOT and back with no tax provided youve already booked it.
Assuming it's roadworthy wink

Just sorn it, no biggy. As soon as you tax it again the sorn is automatically removed.

Also cover your windscreen so your neighbours can't see if it's taxed or not. wink

Just use it, you'll never be caught (not for at least 3 months!).

If you can park it off the road, then SORN it but let the insurance run so you can get it MOTed as often as you need to before you tax it again.

The Insurance is valid until May/June 2012, so no problem there.

Do this!

Plus you will still be earning no-claims discount even if the car is sorn in a garage.

With regards to the MOT, if the car is SORN off the road can I book an MOT, drive the car, have it fail and drive home again? Or even drive home to a Garage/Body Shop?

You didn't bring this up in front of Granny did you? Get it SORN'd right away as he'll be conducting an investigation as we speak.

I didn't sell a 300 employee company @ 28 years old and drive great cars. If I did I sure as hell wouldn't be on here.

yep as long as it's roadworthy youre allowed to take it to a place of repair - garage, your house, whatever.

Then you'll have to book a new appointment to move it from there
Don't let them park it on the road yes
