Hi all
Well found this place by accident!
Am selling my Griff and need some advice
Its the first ever Griff built and has only 22k. I have owned her since picking up from HHC in 92.
This car is well known in the 'community' and TBH hasn't had any horror stories or heart-ache.
Just doesn't get used as it should and thought I might sell to someone who would appreciate it a bit more.
Where do I start selling? What amount should I aim at?
The car has TVR 26S on it at the mo, so do I let it go with the car or sell seperate?
Questions questions !
Is there a place on here to advertise?
Thanks
PT

Blimey that’s a difficult one.

If you can prove conclusively that your car is the first (not that I’m casting doubt on what you say) then I guess it’s worth what anyone is willing to pay for it.

Could you get a letter from the factory confirming it was the first Griffith built ?

IMHO It’s a significant piece of TVR history which should be worth more but I wouldn’t have a clue how much more, have you contacted the TVRCC for a valuation ?

Def the first
Have the pics from the motor show in oct 91 when it had a carbon dash yellow dials (before you could get them)
Its going into the new book about the Griff written by Roger Shakleton.
I know it's not going to be worth more, but do I labour the point its the 1st??
Unless you are a collector does it matter?
will some people be put off?

To me no, it wouldn't matter but I'm sure there is more than one person out there willing to pay more because it's the first.

You can advertise it here for free
www.pistonheads.com/sales/

If Carlsberg made TVR classified webpages, thats what they'd be like

You could always advertise on PH and in TVRCC Sprint with a price of "offers".

Especially in TVRCC sprint as a wealthy American collector might snap it up.

It's probably worth a premium to a collector, but the problem with any unmolested 'original' car is that use degrades its appeal. Any replacement parts and especially accident damage will jeopardise originality. So although I think you can ask a premium price (+20%??), you might actually cut out potential buyers who want a car they can use and develop. Who knows - try it at silly money and see if anyone bites.

Is it a 4.0 or a 4.3?

Its a 4.0 BV so 250HP
Is there such a thing as am un molested TVR!!!!
Espec when it comes form the factory with err a few bits that need a tidy, so to speak. Don't think there are 2 alike either, apparently there are (were) 3 in this colour scheme (yellow pearl with ocean [green] hide and grey wiltons)
I'm thinking £15000 with the plate (TVR 26S).

Next Q... Do I present as is with a few bits needed or do the work and present a 'showroom ' car
I personally would like to see 'as is' so I knew the condition before and after. Obviously I would do the work before sale but whats the consensus??

Hi Paul,
It's good to hear from a relative - I've got a sister car to yours!!
According to Roger Shackleton's research at the factory, mine was the first car of the three pre-production Griffs produced for the 1991 Earls Court Motorfair - the other two being yours and the grey one.
(Mine's the red car featured in the early sales brochures/publicity photos and also in the photos in Steve Heath's and John Tipler's books)
I think yours was the first car supplied to a dealer though, as the other two were kept by the factory after the show - the grey one was used by Neil Anderson, whilst mine was briefly used as a press car, before being used as a development car until 2002. (mine also had the registration TVR 100 on it until 1996 - wish they'd left that on!!).
Did you buy yours new or was it a Hexham/Harrogate demo first? You must be the longest continuous griff owner around!
The grey one was having a new chassis fitted at a local dealers last year - I presume it's back on the road by now. It'd be good to reunite the three of them at some stage in the future, if possible.
How can you even contemplate selling one of the founder members of the club - you know you'll only regret it later!!
Cheers,
Dave

Someone (Fernies?) was asking £17995 for a 4.0 a while ago. I'd try a bit higher.

Me too. A 'collector' however may very well be more easily persuaded by a fully sorted car (ie a museum piece). But for goodness sake repair/restore it, don't just replace anything that looks a bit past its best or half the provenance will be in the bin.

precats already have classic status so the price of them will only start to rise if the condition is right.

If they are looke dafter like classics then they are worth that sort of money.

Paul,
We are arranging a Griff focused event at Gaydon on 31st July/1st August and are trying to get as many as possible together in one place, in particular any with an interesting history.
Would it be possible to bring it along on one of the days, preferably Sunday.
Is it a flipflop yellow colour as ours is too? See picture:

If you need any further info please let me know.
