Strange Going Ons

Bought a new microwave today (exciting stuff)

Ok, when we switch on the microwave it sets off the Griffs alarm
The Griff is parked in the garage,which is adjascent to the kitchen.
I think there must be some kind of electrical surge or weird stuff going on!
The car is also connected to a trickle charger

Any ideas on how to solve this problem!

That's a cracker. Whatever you do don't boil the kettle, the car will be off down the road.

Think you will find the internal sensor on the Tivs is a microwave so its either set to a long range hopefully or your new microwave may have a leak.

I could never park my Griff near military installations which had command centres as you could lock the car but never unlock it.

Definitely something in 90s alarm systems which conflicted with other objects.

Garage door openers could send the car loopy as well.

Strange Have you tried the microwave sited elsewhere, or disconnecting the trickle charger to see if it still occurs

Thanks for all your input, funny ones included (the missis won't touch the kettle now)
I will contact Carl Baker tomorrow and see what he thinks!
The old microwave never caused this problem, so i may have to return the new one.

On another note, i have had problems with my alarm/imobilser before.
Bedfordshire police headquaters is not far from where i live and whenever i am in the area, the alarm plays up and i cannot start the car etc.

I used to have exactly the same problem with my Chim years back. Chucked the microwave, problem solved.

Don't stand close to the microwave when its on...

It would appear there is some leakage from the microwave....you can get a cheapish tester to detect this. Not a good advert for the manufacturer!!

When I had some alarm work done on my Chim by Carl a few years ago, he did point out the 'unit' under the centre console. He advised that the sensitivity was nearly always set to MAX by the factory, and gave me a plastic screwdriver to turn the sensitivity down. This is pretty obvious once you have located the META unit under the centre console - this should help.

I've posted previously in reply to folks unable to access cars after a cross channel ferry trip and when adjacent to other RF sources such as police stations/ambulance centres etc.

Shop: Certainly sir, what seems to be the problem.
OP: It's broken.
Shop: OK, and how do you know this?
OP: Because every time I turn it on it sets off the microwave sensor in my car alarm.

Shop couldn't do enough to help, but i felt like Carl Pilkington from an Idiot abroad

Anyway, i got a refund and bought another microwave elsewhere (which does not set off my car alarm )

Contacted Carl Baker regarding alarm issues and he pretty much gave me a full run down of the issues with the older alarm systems fitted in Tivs.
Carl a really knows his stuff and i will be visiting him soon to replace the whole alarm system.

As like many things, we tend to leave for another day.
My Griffs 16 years old and the alarm is starting to play up,so its time to get it sorted

Having designed a microwave once my view is that you had a very lucky find with the car going off. I had it hammered into me that leakage from microwaves are one of the most dangerous things in the household.

And one people tend to take for granted. Looks like my original diagnosis may have been correct.
