Evening folks .

Just back from CCA in Glasgow with my new winter/daily beater a 2002 325i estate thingy ! Bit of an impulse buy but seemed a good deal .

Literally as i pulled into my drive the orange oil light came on , can you tell me if this is pressure or level ? I did have a quick google and it may well be a bad sensor? Its too dark outside to check just now . Anything else i should know or lookout for also tomorrow (common problems/issues) ? Car seemed to drive very well and felt tight . Might arrange to get it into the garage in the next few days for a proper check over .

Thanks smile

Probably just the level. They have a habit of using about 1 litre of oil every 1000-1500 miles so keep it checked regularly.

yes the oil level sensor can be duff, so use the dipstick and thank god it still has one. if the sensor needs to be changed you'll need an oil change anyway as you need to drain it to reach it

Mine drinks oil at a decent rate too. Seems to be common. Check it / top if up before any big trips.
Rear suspension springs and front bushes seem to be a common MOT failure or wear and tear item if not replaced at some point. Mines proved to be a good mile muncher so far and reliable.

reading people saying their 325i drinks a litre of oil every 1-1.5k miles makes me even more impressed that my 325ti with 120k on the clock still doesn;t use a drop!

its had a very hard life too, been used as a track slag since 90k!
