I have been looking at various quotes tonight, as my insurance is due for renewal on the 27th of this month.

Found a suitable saved one, and clicked confirm to buy - only to find it starts immediately.

My fault of course, but will this be a problem? I don't think I can cancel online and their call centres are currently closed til 8am.

Thanks for any advice.

Not a problem just let it run.

Should've made it more clear if I didn't, I have bought the new policy from a different company to the one I am currently insured with. I'm sure there will be some sort of admin fee if I want to change the start date, as I am effectively already insured with them now.

You shouldn't insure a car twice. Phone them in the morning, either cancelling one, or postponing the other.

Do you not get 14 days cooling off period under the distance selling regs with car insurance?

Yes, but apparently as it has already started there will be a cancellation fee - if I have read that correctly.

As someone else said, just let it run.

Suggest you call in the morning and try explaining and on the basis that you can prove cover elsewhere then they should be able to cancel it.

If they charge you to cancel it then basic maths work put the pro rata difference in the 7 days cover (up until the 27th when you meant to start the policy) if this is more don't bother cancelling it.

I assume you were going to buy the policy with effect from the 27th or else you would not have put in your bank details and not just 'saved it'. In which case when you call and just tell them you want to cancel it and change the inception date.

For me, it would depend on the cost. For the sake of £10 I couldn't be arsed talking to them.

If you really wanted to, you could ask them to change the date for free, if they don't say you'll cancel (pay the £50 or whatever) and take your £xxx elsewhere. Surely they must see common sense...
