Gloss, Satin or Matt?

A spot of advice or suggestions.

I have been asked to supply a number of pictures to be used on a Car Club stand at the forthcoming NEC Classic Motor Show.

The pictures are in Black and White and are from the 70's and 80's which I have scanned in, in most cases from the original negative.

I am having difficultly in deciding which texture of paper to use for the maximum impact.

Any thoughts out there!

Obviously it would depend on how they are going to be presented/displayed, but personally I love the satin finish for B&W.

I find black areas on gloss paper become like mirrors if you're not very careful with lighting of- and around- the image.

I would normally choose gloss but as mentioned, lighting reflections could be an issue. Probably plump for satin as a compromise!

Paper choice is often down to the subject matter, for images of highly polished or glossy smooth subjects then gloss paper is ideal, if the subject matter is textured or rough then matt is good.
