Enlarged prostate
Discussion
Is what I have, it seems.
I take a whole handful of drugs for my type 2 diabetes and don't want to take any more. I have read about some herbal remedies that may help but thought I'd ask the all seeing and all powerful PH colective for any thoughts and recommenations before heading for Holland and Barret.

Sorry, I should have clarified.
I have seen the quack twice. Had the special blood test which is negative and he's had a root around up me bum and says it's fine, but enlarged. Apparently along with just about every other chap over 50.
He says nothing to worry about but keep an eye on it. I just thought there might be some voodoo or witchcraft type stuff that might help.

OK, Saw Palmetto is one of the herbal remedies often used in these cases.
Only to be used when you are "all clear" as otherwise can make the symptoms even worse.
Just be prepared to have a bunch of dubious literature through your door every now and then while they try to flog you remedies for everything!
My Dad said it helped him a bit, but then it turned out to be cancer and he's now prostate-less!

You don't want to take any more "drugs" (prescription drugs which have passed tests on safety and efficacy) but you are happy to take "drugs" brought on the advice of the interweb and purchased from a high street store which are likely ineffective and untested, and perhaps unsafe in their interactions with your prescription medications?
Have a chat with you GP and see what they can offer you.

That's quite a harsh interpretation of the situation. I discussed the position with my doctor and the options for medication. Have a chat with you GP and see what they can offer you.
What I was really after was advice on a natural remedy that might be beneficial. Having received those suggestions I'll be doing some checking, don't you worry about that. That applies if the recommendation is eat more figs or get some Saw Wossname from a shop or pharmecy.

My Urologist stated that Pomegranate, preferably the fruit, failing that the juice, is the only stuff proven to help with the prostrate. He eats two a week.
Lots of Voodoo and unproven remedies on the net.

That's interesting. It's tricky avoiding the voodoo but if it comes from someone with 'an ology' it's worth a go.Lots of Voodoo and unproven remedies on the net.

I wonder if I like pomegranate!

How about pestering your GP for a referral for a TURP?
Wow, that sounds really horrid! Before becoming a GP my chap was a genito urinary chap for a number of years. As he says, with a smile 'I know my way around a penis and bladder'.
I'll see how I get on for the time being.

As has been said with other posts concerning surgery, I think a TURP (having been TURPed myself) is the last resort; if you're really having trouble peeing, etc then it is perhaps the only solution but read up all about it first & try to balance the pros with the cons & compared to how you currently 'function'.
