Browsing the classifieds on PH and see this E39 up for sale:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3032095.htm

Price would seem to be at the top end for a 2001 (Y-reg) car as stated, but the vehicle appears to be a pre-facelift with the non angel eye lights, old style rear lights, old style grille and steering wheel. I thought all the pre-facelift cars would have been sold well before 2001?

Just noticed the same company has a 528 touring listed as a 2001 (X-reg)???

Build dates, and registration dates are two separate things.

The car was 'built' earlier, and registered after the Y plate designation came into being. Nothing wrong with that all really, similarly to when you see 'some' E39's on 04 and I think a few on 54 plates as well..

Cheers, Dennis!

Just strange that I have never, ever seen any E39 pre-facelift on anything later than an X plate. Most X plates are facelifts too. It must have been sold very cheaply as the facelift models had been out for 6 months by the time it was registered.

Ask them for the build date, they provide a good service but most of their cars are quite highly priced.
