Being added to test:

Airbags
Brake fluid warning light
CAT
Condition of visible wiring
Electric seat motor
Electric parking brake
ESC
HID's
PAS
Seatbelt pre-tensioners
Trailer socket
Type pressure monitors

ESC is going to top the big bills!

For us partaking of bargenomics, this may be a problem.

Nah, just buy a car old enough not to have all that rubbish. smile

Also "checking the airbags and pretensioners" is just a question of making sure that the SRS light on the dashboard isn't on. They wont do anything else.

They mostly look like perfectly sensible things to be checking to me.

Presumably anyone with aftermarket HIDs is in the brown stuff then? (except those with self levelling suspension)

How do they test seatbelt pre-tensioners??

I had a sheddy Escrote that failed its MOT on the airbag, removed the bag and disposed of safely, got the bulb and crushed it with some pliers, then put dash back together.

Not bothered about losing the protection it offered as driving the old shed I had died a thousand deaths, people who slag the Rover 214 off really need to drive its contemporaries for balance, a 1.3 Escort was a hideous contraption.

More importantly what age vehicles is this going to relate to per item (retrospective) and how are they goimg to check some of these. e.g. airbag. Hit a wall to test it goes off?

Trailer socket/CAT/PAS are already checked AFAIK?

The only change is that they will now fail a car if there is a warning light on on the dashboard for these things. Take the bulb out and it will pass (just don't then sell the car without telling the new owner what you've done or you could end up in a whole heap of trouble).

I doubt it - it will be like ABS where they check that the light comes on when they turn the ignition on, and then goes out.

So you would need to take a trip to Maplins to make that happen hehe

I understand all the bulbs will be checked - i.e. that they illuminate at position 1 or 2 phase on the ignition.

So there's no hiding now unfortunately!

What do they mean by Airbags?

Mine has front and side airbags with a little sticker saying they needed to be replaced in 2008. Does that = fail?

Is it a legal requirement for the light to come on when the ignition is first turned on then? Anyway as you say, it would take five minutes to rig up a circuit to do that.

Pft, anyone who's done GCSE physics ought to be able to get around that.

Don't think so at the moment (and it will be just done off normal functioning of the warning light), but it wouldn't surprise me if at some point they do insist on airbag replacement at the specified interval.

All the best

Is it just me, or does "electric seat motors" look rather out of place in that list? confused

My E34 has headlight leveling adjust from the interior and headlight washers so I should be fine.

I could be wrong, but I believe the cat. is not checked. You have to pass emissions tests, but if the emissions are alright I don't think it matters whether there's a cat there or not?

This was the first thing I though of - if you can't prove that your airing has been replaced at the appropriate service interval, does that = fail?

Bloody PITA if it does!
