Diff final ratio

John Read had just rebuilt my '98 Chimaera 450 diff, and mentioned that I had a final ratio of 3.2something...

He said that 3.4something was very common, with the 3.2something possibly an option offered at the time of sale...?

Does anyone know more about this particular ratio?

What its "purpose" was, is it specifically good for anything, does it confer any benefits for a particular type of set-up, etc etc..?

Thats not much different from the normal ratio.
It will give a higher top speed if the powers there to achieve it.
It will also give a lower rpm on cruising on the motorway etc and may give a couple more mpg.

Maybe it was specified, maybe its just what the factory had lying about at the time they built your car.

I have a 3.08 ste of gears to go in mine when i get the urge to do vmax. 170+ mph Chimaera, just hope the bonnet and roof stay put!
