Why does a car that has been utterly reliable throughout 5 years of ownership choose the day it is due to be sold to not start?!

I'm sure there are plenty of examples of this floating around. Luckily this time, it's just a flat battery.

Two days before selling the wifes Freelander, the valve melted in the engine, mega bucks to fix it.

Years ago i was selling a pug 205gti, guy came at the weekend and left a deposit, was coming back on monday to collect. Driving home from work sitting waiting at a junction, some silly cow cuts the corner, and takes out the front drivers side wing, wheels locked with bent metal, had to call my dad to go to my place and let the guy know he would not be able too collect the car.

Another one, Selling my supra, 100% reliable, guy comes to see it, and it would not start, no lights nothing. He left, went out to look at the car, started straight away. I think the car didn't like the buyer, started perfectly for the next person who came to look at / buy it.

Let the missus go out in the Range Rover just an hour after I had lsited it for sale on Ebay.....the calls comes in 'the car wont move forward or back' so I go down to see her fully expecting to just drive it back, what I wasn't expecting was a lunched gear boxmad
Anyway, found a reconditioned one and had it repaired all in time for the buyer to pick up the following week.
